Who do you think you are?

This cloth, one in a series, began when my son joined facebook. Having only a very small family of Setterington’s I was amazed when a whole new set emerged as his “possible” friends. My initial thought was to contact all the people and ask for their signatures to sew onto a Setterington quilt. However I realized this would take some time, so I took a different approach.

Instead the signatures are “made” by friends, family and work colleagues. Varying handwriting styles and identities are still evident and like facebook itself, what we see on the surface is not always what is going on underneath.

The other quilts featured here explore my own signature, worked both by hand and on the computerised embroidery machine. Again investigating the value of the “handmade” in today’s digital age.
