This is a signature quilt project with Sreepur Village in Bangladesh. Working with Ruby Porter, a trustee of the charity we hope to raise awareness of, and, support the organisation. Ruby asked the women in Sreepur to sew the signatures in Bengali and English. The cloths were then posted back to me in Manchester and I then joined them together using a variety of lace pieces, a direct response to the signature cloth at Gawthorpe Hall from 1905 where the linen squares are pieced together with lace. This is then backed with a utilitarian kantha also from Bangladesh.
It was shown at the Embroiderers Guild AGM at the end of March in Southport where Ruby is a key note speaker. Hopefully it will be one of the collaborative quilts displayed in the exhibition in Nebraska in 2014.
