The Global Quilt

The 62 Group show Connected Cloth at the Whitaker Gallery in Rawtenstall is part of the British Textile Biennial. It opens on Oct 2nd and runs until Nov 2021. The exhibition features the global quilt made by hand over six months in 2021 and incorporating cloth from over 20 countries to highlight the widespread reach and connectivity of cloth.

The quilt is made up of over 1200 circles of repurposed fabric and was constructed over 6 months. This includes workshops at the Whitaker with local groups who donated their own signigicant fabrics to the project.

Thanks to Harinder Kooner and Meghan Darby for help with the workshops.

Countries represented include England, Japan, India, Pakistan Bangladesh, Rwanda, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Palastine and Morocco.
